Getting started with NarcCount in the US

How NarcCount keeps a US pharmacy's controlled-substance inventory reconciled.

NarcCount works out what you should have on hand from your own records, compares it to what you count, and flags every difference for you to look into.

The four record types

  • Counts — what you count on the shelf.
  • Purchases — controlled substances received.
  • Dispensing — controlled substances dispensed.
  • Destructions — controlled substances destroyed or sent away.

Drugs go by NDC

Type or upload an NDC in any printed form, such as 00406-0523-01. The name and DEA schedule fill in from the FDA's NDC Directory.

The US version

A Florida pharmacy signs up straight onto NarcCount's US version: NDCs, DEA schedules, and DEA and Florida rules. Florida is the first state. Other states are not supported yet.

First steps

  • In Settings, under Regulatory details, add your Florida permit number, your DEA registration number and your Prescription Department Manager (PDM). They print on your records.
  • Upload your purchase, dispensing and destruction records with Upload File.
  • Start a new count and enter what you counted.
  • Finalize the count, then print the report.
