The short answer
Choose NarcCount if
- You want to open any variance and see the transactions behind it.
- You want a finalised count locked, with who signed it off on the record.
- You want count reminders and a pre-filled Health Canada loss or theft form now.
- You want a published price and no sales call to start.
Choose NarCon if
- You want a tool that connects to your dispensing software so you never upload a file, and NarCon supports your system. Ask them; their page does not list which.
- You want changes made in the reconciliation to update your dispensing software. Their page says NarCon does this; NarcCount never writes to it.
Don't switch yet if
- You are in the middle of investigating a discrepancy. Close it on the record you have first.
- You cannot export your last finalised count and the transactions since it. The import starts from that baseline.
NarcCount and NarCon, side by side
Connecting to your dispensing system
Upload any system's controlled-substance report as CSV, with export guides for Kroll, PharmaClik, Fillware, WinRx, McKesson, Kohl & Frisch and Imperial. For Kroll, a read-only agent can send fills and wholesaler invoices on a schedule; it is new and not yet live at a customer store. NarcCount never writes to your dispensing system.
Their page says NarCon integrates with many dispensing software applications, that a change made in NarCon updates your dispensing software automatically, and that you no longer need to upload files. It does not list which systems.

Sign-off and audit trail
Finalising a count locks its numbers, with who signed it off and when, on the record and the printed report. Append-only, hash-chained audit log of edits, deletions and sign-offs. A bulk import is logged as one entry.
Their page lists paperless records saved on the cloud, with reports retrieved in seconds. Sign-off and an audit log are not covered on the page. Ask the vendor.

Why pharmacies pick NarcCount
The expected number is derived, not typed
Every count starts from your own records, so a variance means something and the evidence for it is one tap away.
Signed off, then locked
A finalised count cannot be quietly changed. Who signed it off, and when, prints on the report, and anything done to the record afterwards shows in the audit log.
Ready for the bad day
When a shortage turns out to be real, the loss report is already filled in from the count, and the reminder means the next count is never the thing that lapses.
Moving your records across
Bring your last finalised count and the purchases, dispensing and destructions since it as CSV. See uploading your records and the export guides for your pharmacy system, or email support@narccount.ca and we help with the move.
Questions
Do I lose my reconciliation history if I switch to NarcCount?
No. Export your last finalised count and the purchases, dispensing and destructions since it, import them as CSV, and NarcCount reconciles forward from that baseline.
Does NarcCount write back to my dispensing software?
No. NarcCount reads your records, from a CSV upload or the read-only Kroll agent, and never changes your dispensing system. If you want a tool that writes changes back, NarCon's page says it does.
Is the comparison on this page fair?
Every statement about NarCon here is what Nodens Health's own NarCon page says, read on the date shown at the top, with the source linked beside it. Where their page does not cover a feature, the row says so rather than guessing. We do not state their price because their page does not publish one.
Does NarcCount replace my dispensing system or the NMS?
No. NarcCount is a reconciliation and recordkeeping tool. Your dispensing software and its real-time Narcotics Monitoring System submissions continue as they are; NarcCount checks your physical inventory against your records.
